Arts & Culture

Whether you are into visiting museums, great shopping or fine dining, walking the dog, or bicycling during your leisure time, Lexington offers diverse recreational and entertainment opportunities. Art enthusiasts will enjoy visiting the wide variety of museums in the area. Lexington boasts everything from large modern malls, to quaint retail stores run by local merchants, to the historic retail districts. The variety of shopping in Lexington allows all type of shoppers to find the best shoes, skirts and Blackberry pouches.

When you need a break from the shopping, Lexington is loaded with great restaurants, coffee shops, swanky lounges, and bars to refresh and rejuvenate you. Finally, you can burn off all that food and drink on the many miles of fitness and nature trails throughout the city. The real question is do you have enough energy for Lexington? Let's examine the arts and culture scene a little more closely.

Whether you're in the mood to see great musicals, national and international museum exhibits, touring productions of the best Broadway plays or delightful children's productions, Lexington hosts a large range of different artistic and cultural opportunities that fit every interest and budget. Leading the way for the local advancement of the arts is not commercial mortgage lenders or producers in suits, it is Lexington's united arts fund and arts council, LexArts. This organization is keen to bring the best of the arts world to the citizens of Lexington and always manages to find ways of getting the public involved.

Meanwhile, the Lexington Art League (known locally as LAL) is Lexington's oldest and largest visual arts organization. They are committed to providing both exhibition and educational opportunities for artists, patrons and of course, the public. The Lexington Arts League presents the American Founders Bank Woodland Arts Fair every August and is home to its flagship gallery, located in the historic Loudoun House (which is generously sponsored by the Mayor's office). Even someone working in accounting software Vancouver should take a day away from the office to see what they have on display.

If it's museums that you enjoy the most, then Lexington can certainly offer you a wide range of different types with very different exhibits. From the wonderful Aviation Museum of Kentucky to the amazing Headley-Whitney Museum, which houses a diverse and robust collection of items from jeweled boxes, Asian porcelain to extravagant tapestries and wall art, the options are numerous and seemingly endless. If you prefer the scientific research and experimental development aspects of museum touring, you will not want to forget about the University of Kentucky Art Museum, or the Explorium of Lexington, and the popular Kentucky Derby Museum in Louisville.

The arts and culture scene in Lexington is clearly quite wide in its range and the scope of things to do is just as diverse. There are many exciting shows and exhibits to see all year round, and many venues are open seven days a week, allowing for the public to access these events and goings on whenever it fits into their schedule of work, children, fitness activities and other demands of the work week. Of course, many artists are allowed to be your own boss, and if this is true for you, then you can spend plenty of time exploring all that Lexington has to offer in terms of art and culture.
